Caroline Wozniacki
It was not tough for the world no. 1 to reach the third round of the Grand Slam successively for the 13th time. It took her only 58 minutes to win the game. Reports suggest that the first ranking can be maintained by Wozniacki even if she reaches the semi finals of the game without going on to the finals. She lost her first match last week against Dominika Cibulkova but soon got into the groove of her winning ways. World no.88 King, committed many errors in her game giving the Dane a chance to win and get back on track. She said that it was a great game and she really enjoyed playing it. After the past season she changed the manufacturer of her racquet and moved on to a new one.
South Africa’s Chanelle Scheepers also advanced in the other round after beating Regina Kulikova of Russia. Venus Williams (4)will be taking on Francesca Schiavone on Wednesday while Victoria Azarenka (8) and Li Na (9) – will play against each other on the same day.
Andy Roddick proceeded to the third round of the Australian Open crushing Russia’s Igor Kunitsyn at Melbourne. Kunitsyn, who ranks 99 in the world, also made a good start as he gave Roddick some tough competition. However, in the other two sets Roddick came to style, bringing the game to a finish in less than 2 hours.
Sixth seed Tomas Berdych took the game to 4 sets to preside over Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The first set was won by the German player but gradually the game was taken over by the finalist of the 2010 Wimbledon Tournament. Roddick will meet either the 26th seed Argentine player Juan Monaco or Robin Hasse of Netherlands depending on who reaches the next round of the game. Roddick says that he was shocked by his opponent’s strategy in the first set. Roddick said that the player against whom he was playing played the game really well and formulated the game plan and also executed it in a very fine manner. “Gradually I got the hang of the game and so this helped me win.”
American 16th seed Mardy Fish was the first top seed player to become victim on the third day and followed a big defeat at the hands of Spanish player Tommy Robredo.
Fish made 51 errors on the court while he was the one to reach the semi finals in 2009.
Robredo will play Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky who beat Lukasz Kubot of Poland. Japan’s Kei Nishikori, after winning over the German player Florian Mayer, advanced to the next round after winning 3 sets. He will play against Fernado Verdaso or Janko Tipsarevic in the third round whosoever wins the game.
