The police had no real confirmed data on the bomb just a warning call came from an unknown source. Charlie Louvin

When Charlie Louvin joined forces with Ira, his brother on the first of their recordings in the 1940′s, they send a shock wave that is still making waves 60 years later.

As one part of the singing duo of The Louvin Brothers, Charlie Louvin created a perfect combination of harmony and melody that captivated audiences across the country. Their influence in music can still be felt in the charts today be it for pop, rock and roll or country music.

Louvin, who was an honored member of the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame, passed away peacefully in his house in Wartrace, roughly 50 miles from Nashville. Six months ago he was told he had pancreatic cancer. Louvin was 83 years old at the time of his death.

The Louvin Brothers captured the ears of audience with their brand of honest music, charming everyone instantly and getting the listeners to try for perfection as the brother did in making their music.

“They really changed the music world,” said Emmylou Harris to Associated Press. “Hearing the songs from the Louvin Brothers gave me a strong sense of harmony.”

Like six degrees of separation, the Louvin Brother’s influence spread from The Beatles to The Beach Boys to The Everly Brothers, from Harris to The Byrds and Gram Parsons, and continued down to new century acts like Fleet Foxers, Secret Sisters, Bon Iver, and a whole contingent of harmony lovers.

The brothers split in 1963 and his brother Ira died in a motor accident in 1965. John Rumble, resident history at the Country Music Hall of Fame, said Charlie kept the memory of the Louvin Brothers alive with his solo career often infusing material from the Brothers collection with his later works.

The Brothers had over 10 hits when they were together with their biggest being ‘I Don’t Believe You’ve Met My Baby” which went to No.1 in the year 1955. Rumble said that the song climb up to the top despite not being a rock and roll number which was dominating the airwaves then.

“On their songs, the only concession to modern technology was the inclusion of the sounds from an electronic guitar,” said Rumble when talking to Associated Press.

A former member of the Byrds, Gram Parson who was a legend in his own right throughout the 60′s and 70′s first caught the songs from the Louvin’s in 1956 when he was just 9 years old. Elvis was on the airwaves as well then but the Louvin Brothers caught his ear. He wasn’t the only one to appreciate something different with the Louvins’ music.

“It was a very different sound compared to what was playing heavily during that time, when it was all country and honky-tonk music. The Brothers, with their mandolin guitar, emphasized high pitched melodies and a collection combining both sacred and secular songs that touched on love, family, salvation and sin.” said Rumble.

Louvin was found to have pancreatic cancer last June. His surgery was not fully successful but he still maintained his tough schedule. Louvin was one of the few stars to be invited to a special welcome back performance at the Grand Ole Opry held last year to commemorate the re-opening to the house after damaged by floods.
