Shuttle Discovery Launched

The shuttle Discovery lifted off today at 10:39am ET with no problems. As the crowd watched in suspense and then rang out in thunderous applause as the engines fired and Shuttle Discovery lifted off from Launch Pad 39B. Commanded by Eileen Collins and carrying an international crew of 7 astronauts, the shuttle flew over the Atlantic and climbed into the sky. Discovery is on a 12 day mission to deliver equipment and supplies to the International Space Station. This is the first shuttle flight since the 2003 Columbia disaster.
